Vacant Farmhouse

From our March 2013 issue

By Janet Leclaire – Kelowna, B.C.

The old vacant farmhouse
With an aging, tired look
All weathered and beaten
Destroyed by the environment.

The vacant house is still standing
With every window cracked and broken
Siding and shingles grey and torn
Broken and shattered from wear and tear.

In the distance by the old house
An outhouse standing by,
Door wide open with an empty seat
With Eaton’s catalogue still hanging there.

Not far from the old house
A lonely windmill standing by
With its head hanging low
Not in use, just resting in silence.

Once it was a home to a family
Now there isn’t anyone left to care
Just sitting empty and abandoned
Resting instead, quiet, and so … so still.
