Built in 1912 and operated as a school from 1913-1956, the Birch Lake School became a social gathering point for various events like dances, meetings or whatever. For the dances, the orchestra was generally made up of local people.
Birch Lake School still stands on the original land and is cared for by the Ledinski family. Of all the students who attended this school the only person residing in the district is Raymond Ledinski. He was a student there from 1941-1950.
If you would have told someone 25 years ago that Raymond would be the only student left residing in the district they would have never believed you.
Two years ago, Raymond and Evelyn Ledinski held their celebration for their 50th wedding anniversary at the school. With a little paint on the outside and tender loving care I’m sure the school will be standing for many years yet.
As for myself, I attended Birch Lake School from 1954-1956 and certainly appreciate all the things done by Raymond and his family.
