Pastor lost his charm

From our April 2012 issue

By Allen Severson – Camrose, Alta.

I am a retired Lutheran pastor. I began my parish ministry in 1952 at Birch Hills, Saskatchewan.

In one of the country churches there was a young couple and a baby who were regular worshipers. When I had the service the baby would sleep through it. If someone else had the service, or if we had a guest speaker, the baby would stay awake throughout the service. I took it as a compliment.

As the child grew older she began staying awake even if I had the service. One day her mother said to me, “You have lost your charm over my child.”
