I attended Haultain School south of Saskatoon, Sask., where my first teacher was Miss Anderson. She really believed in us kids getting our arithmetic questions and answers on the way home from school.
Miss Anderson boarded at some people’s home. Boy, were we glad when she got home – but I’m sure she meant well.
I always thought of how pretty our teachers looked when they came to teach us kids. They were young teachers too.
One day a young boy in Grade 1 came up to my desk and kissed me on the cheek. I was in Grade 4. I wonder if the older boys had put him up to it? I’ll never know.
At Vacation Bible School, the minister asked me if I would teach a class. I wanted the kindergarten class. We all had a good time, singing, colouring pictures, and learning lots of things. I did this for 10 years and really enjoyed it all.
