Waldeck Golden Agers

From our January 2013 issue

By Esther Rude – Swift Current, Sask.

In Saskatchewan there is a village
And Waldeck is its name.
The seniors organized a club
Fun and action was its aim.
The musicians gathered on Monday p.m.
To practice their various tunes.
On Tuesday we met to work on crafts
That were sold at our tea in June.

Our Bingo was held on the first Wednesday,
The poster said, “Everyone Welcome,”
Ten games were played with a coffee break,
Then young and old packed up and went home.
The second Wednesday was open to games
And there was quite a variety.
Pool and floor curling were on top of the list,
Then we always had time for coffee and tea.

The third was our supper and meeting night.
The food brought was really delicious.
Before the meeting got underway
We quickly did up the dishes.
Now there is nothing more fitting
Than sharing a cake with the members who
Were celebrating their birthday
As we sang “Happy Birthday” to you.

Whist Drives were held on the fourth Wednesday.
The cards were soon dealt out to four.
The evening later comes to the end
With prizes given to the high and low score.
From games, films, speakers, dances
There’s a change on the fifth Wednesday
Always looking for a large crowd.
It was a nice way to end the day.

Friday morning the ladies met in the hall
To work out our arms and behinds.
Fun and Fitness was the name of the game,
To help improve our bodies and minds.
We had tournament every spring,
And worked real hard to place just right
The pool cue, darts, and curling rocks
Closing with program and trophy night.

Around Christmas we put up the tree.
Soon the hall was decked out
in green and red.
Program and singing was enjoyed by all,
And “Merry Christmas” by all was said.
There was always fun and laughter
When we got together at the Waldeck Hall.
