Big City

From our January 2013 issue

By Donald Tataryn – Scarborough, Ont.

From a tiny country village to a city like you
from a life that’s been lonely to the excitement of you
then along came those rumours they were all about you but I could never believe them
because I loved you
I would never believe them even if they were
true I could never believe them because I loved you

they said you were rootless they said you were cruel they said you used your beauty as if it were a lure they even used an example as a flower to a bee but they were only rumours and I had a love lite in me although I would never believe them even if they were true I could never believe them because I loved you

it was the glitter of the bright lights that
brought me to you the horror of the night life
that I never knew the stories in the paper that were written were true you brute you big city I’ll always love you
although I would never believe them even if they were true I could never believe them because I loved you
