Winter

From our January 2014 issue

By Amy (Western) Brusky – Golden Prairie, Sask.

There’s a bite in the cooling breeze tonight,
And a haze in the northern sky;
Clouds drift up in the day’s last light,
And geese go flying by.

Cold winter comes with the waning night,
The first few snowflakes fly;
The cold gray dawn is dull and dim,
And Autumn says goodbye.

Faster and faster the snowflakes fall
And soon the ground is white;
Earth is wrapped in eiderdown
A blanket so warm and light.

But there will be days of sun ahead
When the air is crisp and clear;
A time that calls to the out-of-doors,
Then sleds and skis appear.

There too, will be times when the blizzards rage
And the winds will whine and moan;
A time to sit by the firelight’s gleam
In the warmth and comfort of home.

Then Christmas will come with its time of cheer
Of friendship, love, and games;
When families gather their gifts to share
By the firelight’s dancing flames.
